CATS NOT KIDS

Saturday, March 21, 2009

This post is inspired by an email my mom sent me this morning.
But before you read that, I need to provide some back story.

My cat Oliver passed away a few weeks ago. This was Oliver on New Years (He didn't die of a drug overdose - I swear! - but of old age and illness.

My mom was shattered by the loss. Her email was about breaking the news of Oliver to our six year old neighbors.

"Our little girl neighbors Abby and Jamie came to visit Oliver and Marcelle earlier today and I had to break the news of Oliver's passing - they were so moved by this that they came back after about 15 min. to offer to "clean my house" for me as a gesture of kindness - I gave them legitimate jobs to do - the banister - the low dresser in our room - the laundry room - and Evan also helped although he got carried out kicking and screaming by his Mom because they had to go for Shabbat dinner - children are our gifts from God -"

HAHAHAHA! My god, Joyce Morris you are the cutest.
In honor of you, here are some youtube videos about children. There funny I promise...

DREAM IT AND DO IT

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

Spring is an electrifying time in the city. I find it incredibly distracting. I've been thinking a lot about the summer - last years was a bit of a bust. But this year I'm going in prepared. Four months is a long time...I want them to be incredible! I've collected a few images that inspire.

I'll be taking four classes at U of T this summer!

Biking EVERYWHERE!

Teaching myself to sew dresses from scratch

Volunteering at the U of T Farmers Market!

Finding the perfect record player and starting a record collection

Seeing lots of great plays and working as an usher.

I also want to swim a lot, play outside, pool hop, dance and get freckles!! And most importantly meet lots of new people, hang out with my brother, my mom and the handful of friends in TO who have a death grip around my heart for realz.

EDIT:
I just want to add...this is a conversation i had with AJ about our summer plans on facebook chats today.

You Tube Videos are Getting Old

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

I know, I know...NO MORE YOU TUBE VIDEOS. The problem is, I lost my camera uploading chord again.
(This video does make me laugh quite a bit though. Its border line disturbing.)

The best part is:

"You better shape up
You better understand
You need to stop eating glue."

*Special thanks to Cristina for mentioning me in her last post.

Last night - Art Matters Closing Party
Missed Connection - Montreal! NOTE: To clarify, I didn't write this

Art matters closing party (the future) (Montrizzle)

Hi,

This is to all you Montrealer
s that are planning on going to the art matters closing party or out at all tonight:

Instead of crawling to your computer tomorrow morning with a bad hangover and coming onto craigslist to post a missed connection about the girl/guy in the plaid dress/shirt with the really tight skirt/pants that you will spend the night staring at how about you try something different and go say hi. It's that easy. It gets me laid every weekend.

Godspeed

AMEN!

Little Miss Dynamite

Friday, March 13, 2009

I have many goals this summer - One is to find a vintage record player, so I can watch Brenda Lee spin and spin inside it! That sounded way more sexual than I intended.
I put up a video of Bon Iver a few posts back...but I think this is even better.
You decide.

EDIT: Can you hear her? When I play this video there is no sound! HEEEELLP.

FUNKY

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

I looked up the definition on FUNKY.
This is what I got first:
funky - offensively malodorous; "a foul odor"; "the kitchen smelled really funky"
Then...
funky - stylish and modern in an unconventional way; "she likes funky clothes"; "we did it all in black and white in a very funky sixties style"
I will admit I like both definitions to describe this blog.

Too Cool For Public School

Gavin, Sam and I set up shop on the steps of St Michael's Church, spreading lox and cream cheese on our freshly purchased Fairmount Bagels. Mine had an unusual name: THE POWER BAGEL. Eating on the steps reminded us of Gossip Girl - the way Blair and Serena lunch on the steps of the Met. SPEAKING OF GOSSIP GIRL: I have been waiting a month for a new episode. And what to they give me? The season fucking finale. Thank you. I waited a month for ONE WHOLE EPISODE.
This is the actual church (in the Mile end on the corner of St Urbain and St Viateur)

I'm really wired right now - I need to stop blogging at night - I'm never going to fall asleep! Exclamation! Points!

HAPPY WOMANS DAY!

Sunday, March 8, 2009

All morning I have been saying "Happy Woman's Day!!!!" to every person who crosses my path. This post is dedicated to all the fabulous ladies in my life - but especially four women who have become absolutely essential to my life happiness this year:

Steph, Deragh, Franny and Sofia: I came to Montreal wanting to find a group of girlfriends just like you! I adore all of you and our blog worthy dinner parties.

I've never been crazy about Kate Moss. But yesterday, I was flipping through my friends magazine, looking at her spread, and I couldn't figure out why she looked so different. Then I realized she wasn't photoshopped. How refreshing! It was the first time I saw Kate Moss as a real woman - and not just a short model, fashion icon hidden behind sunglasses for paparazzi.

On another note: I'm trying to figure out if I should go to class this morning. I went to Gavin and Sams hotel room last night and drank too much beer and wine(when I should have been resting and getting over my eleven day illness.) BUT WE GOT TO GO SWIMMING!!!

The Mile End

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

(All photos from: http://spacingmontreal.ca/neighbourhood/mile-end)

I love the neighborhood that I live in. So much in fact, that I wrote it a poem,

A Love Letter to the Mile End

I love you for the incredible sales at my grocery store.
I love the Parc bus for coming every ten minutes.
I love that I rarely have to stray far from the area when I party. But when I do, your magical bus will zip me off to wherever I need to go.
I love eating your Fairmount bagels with Steph after a drunken night.
I equally love your breakfast joints the next morning.
I love the walk up Waverly Street to get to the gym.
I love seeing all the people sitting on the smoky patio of The Social when the weather is warmer. I secretly love saying your name out loud.
I love that my Depaneur is called Beer Paradise, though I wish the staff liked me more and sold Pabst Blue Ribbon.
I love the cafes. Especially the one where I get my ground Espresso.
I love that you house lots of cute boys.
I love you rain or shine (though I prefer you in the warmer months)
There is nowhere else I would rather be,
But in you,
Cause your so sexy.
