Seeing Red With Chloe Sevigny
Monday, September 14, 2009
This is the latest collection of Chloe's for Opening Ceremony. (Photos and info found here Thank you Jordy for sharing the link!
"The look began with one simple idea: red hair. Chloë felt redheads were the perfect models for her line of grey tweeds, animal print jacquards, Fair Isle knits, subtle dark plaids, pink flannels, and bright red wools."
Best Friends
Wednesday, September 9, 2009
Hayley and Erika have both mentioned that back to school means frequent blog posts. For me, this is not the case. Sawry.
But Im here now, so that'll have to do. I just got off the phone with my friend Scarlett and I am happy to report that my wildest dreams have come true: Scarlett has moved to Montreal! She's here. Like, right now. This girl came to visit me last year from Vancouver, and it was the best weekend I've ever had in Montreal. Complete with false eye lashes, nose piercings, window shopping, cracking hard boiled egg shells on cars, cappuccinos, sexy anarchist book store keepers, partiez, laughing, flashy headbands, dancing, THE WORKS!
Technology
Friday, September 4, 2009
In my experience transitions to a new city/moving into an apartment, usually come paired with many unwanted suprises. Suprises that make you want to curl into the fetal position and cry out "WHY IS EVERYTHING GOING WRONG!" But so far, my move back has been peachy. Little stress, which is unusual for me, since I am a worrier. My only problem is technology. Specifically setting up my internet (uuuuuhhh) and dealing with the faulty blackberry i bought on craigslist (i want my money back!). Thankfully my brother is here to help the technologically inept.
My digital camera also broke the day before i left for rock camp and I'm worried my blog will suffer for it. I bought a broken black berry when I really could have used a camera. Yesterday my brother and I went the Fripe Prix to find a simple battery operated point and shoot and he found me something like this for $4
I'm thinking of using this (if it even works) and getting the film developed for the blog, My brother helped set up my printer or scanner, which I am really happy with. He did some test runs using his old manipulated polaroids of my family in the 60's. see below:
My dad used to have a purple car. Anyways, I yearn for the days when technology was simpler. I have had the worst luck with cell phones and just dont want one anymore. Id like a landline. Internet I love, but Bell Sympatico should die.

Classy Joicey

My mom is a classy broad/hidden party animal.
This weekend she taught me...
1) if you dont have a lighter and are hesistant to ask that sketchy, old, lecherous man on the corner for a light, hop into a dep (or the corner store if yous in Toronto) buy yerslef a snack and ask for a pack of matches. The matches come to a total of 5 cents and with it, you are guaranteed a scowl from the person behind the counter, angry at your insight.
2) When in the SAQ (or LCBO if yous in Toronto), go straight to the wines from Italy, California, Argentina. Look for a merlot, or cabernet sauvignon and dont pay more than 12 bucks. Examine the color to the light - look for rich reds!
3) Put your plant by the light and dont be afraid to give it a haircut.
BACK
My mom and I have been living it up the past few days - eating quebec cheese, drinking wine, walking about, dining, smoking mint slims, chatting, and enjoying my new apartment.
my mom thought we needed lipstick for a better photo, so we used each others sunglasses as mirrors.
and then we ran into hayley and saw her apartment which is rad!!!!
OH MAN. Good vibes are exploding around me :)

ROCK CAMP FOR GIRLS
Tuesday, August 25, 2009
(blazer, corsette, belt: Buy the Pound. skirt: American Apparel. shoes: Liz Claiborne from Winners (sale rack!) sunglasses: Ray Ban. Have had them for years, but finally got them repaired. liptick: Nars "Heat Wave")
I want to tell you about Rock Camp. But I don't know where to begin, or how to do it justice. The experience was so wonderful. On the bus home, it hit me that I was in the midst of something really spectacular. The women who run the camp quickly became role models for me and I haven't looked up to many adults in a long time. The girls at the camp were incredible - constantly taking risks, learning new things, sharing, growing, communicating. They were also just so cool. When the four bands performed at the end, i had tears in my eyes. I could go on forever talking about how amazing this place was!!
I've been thinking about getting a band together. If 14 year olds can write amazing songs, learn new instruments, and perform them at the end of it...maybe I can too!
You've Really Got A Hold On Me
I'm packing up my room now, preparing for my move to Montreal. I've been reflecting on the summer, and it overwhelms me to think about how much has happened. Its been an amazing summer, and the four months just flew by. I am excited to be back in Montreal - there is a lot to look forward to. But part of me is hesitant to leave Toronto - my friends, my family, fresh fruit and a latte every morning, a clean bath tub! what a treat. And I wish I had one more month to experience this city at a slower pace. I packed my summer in, fearing that I would be bored and unhappy if I didn't push myself every day to accomplish something. so now im stressed and drained and am actually looking to Montreal for some down time (I never thought I would say that.)
I am also sad to leave because when I got back from Rock Camp I was introduced to the 2 week old kitten living in my house. She was found drowning in a puddle during the big thunderstorm and my family saved her...
Ive exploited her a little in this photo...she's wearing a little purse that says "When the goin gets tough, the tough go shopping" on it. just cause shes so darn cute.
The importance of music to girls
Sunday, August 16, 2009
can you spot me in here?
Okay, quick post before I hop on a train to Peterborough for a week, where there's little internet access for me. Im volunteering at a camp where we teach girls how to play drums/bass/guitar - they learn their new instruments and form bands, write their own songs and perform them at 'the big gig' at the end of the camp. I'll be there to support the girls, and help them "find their voice". Im hoping they will come to understand themselves a little better, music is "the medium" through which they will do this. I want them to feel empowered by music - to get loud, curious, creative, and a little adventurous. I recently just experienced how empowering music can be. Two days ago I had no idea how to tune a guitar - yesterday I threw all the guitars in my house out of tune and got them back to normal. A small accomplishment but still it felt great.
There are a couple rock camps around the world. They made a movie about the first one in Portland, Oregan. This trailer will make you laugh. It will make you cry. It will help you to understand what I'm doing over there in Peterborough a little better!
Now that Im gone, you may be looking for new reading material. I stumbled upon this one in Urban Outfitters and the back cover gave me chills.
Art Architecture Adventure Beauty
Thursday, August 13, 2009
When I asked my dad if he would take me shopping on our trip he said "Jenny. This trip is about art, architecture, adventure and beauty. Maybe you can shop on the way home." We ended up fulfilling the mantra quite nicely on our vacation, and yes, I still got a bit of shopping in - 5 minutes at a Goodwill, and 20 minutes at the Target.

this is where we stayed.
I really love the pictures my brother took on the vacation. The new blog header is a photo that was taken by my brother on the trip. We are inside the mattress factory, an installation art gallery in Pittsburgh. That night we tucked into our frank lloyd wright house and popped a bottle of champagne. We made a toast to the architect. "Follow Frank, he will take you to the most beautiful places".

Paper Heart
Monday, August 10, 2009
I saw Paper Heart last night with Gavin and Sam...the movie was funny, heart felt, and quirky. I've been thinking about love and romance and relationships all day. One woman interviewed in the movie said that when she was falling in love, "even the leaves looked greener and brighter." She also told us that she was such a knock out (back in her day) that when she took out a cigarette 15 guys came to light it. I thought that was pretty awesome. You know you're hot when...(Anyways, do guys still look to do this? They should, its sexy.) I also watched The Bridges of Madison County over the weekend. Quirky? Not so much. But passionate? thought provoking? intelligent? Meryl Streepy? Very much, yes.
Post Script: I did more back to school shopping today at Value Village and found these brand new quilted slippers that I was really excited about...But when I came out of the change room they were GONE! Someone stole them! It was so upsetting. The NERVE! Fuckers.
